From CDR Andy Sugimoto, Coast Guard Cutter ACUSHNET (WMEC 167) Commanding Officer Deadliest Catch! I guess it was inevitable as we slowly worked our way through the Red King Crab fleet that we would come across one of the vessels from this season's Deadliest Catch. Sure enough, as we were just finishing up a boarding on the F/V ISLAND MIST, the F/V CORNELIA MARIE began laying pots close by. They had not been boarded by the Coast Guard at sea in several years, so we geared up one of our Boarding Teams and sent them over. The crew was very professional although it was a little weird to have the boarding filmed by a camera crew. The team did a great job. Attached are a couple pictures of our brush with fame. Picture 1 and 2 are of the CORNELIA MARIE in the foreground and the ACUSHNET in the back. Picture 3 is of the Boarding Team, ENS Joe Haynsworth, BM1 Shaun Stone, FN Domenic Potter and SN Thomas Hammit, conducting the boarding on the CORNELIA MARIE |
