JUNEAU, Alaska -- The Coast Guard invites members of the media aboard an Arctic Awareness Flight August 7 to the Coast Guard's first *Forward Operating Location (FOL) in Barrow. The Kodiak-based HC-130 will fly north along the coast, observing vessels transiting the area, scouting ice locations and coastal erosion, and testing its capabilities. During the flight, HC-130 air crew members and senior Seventeenth Coast Guard District operational commanders will be available for interviews. A two-hour media availability has been scheduled in Barrow with the Coast Guard FOL Commander and other operational components including HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crews, Coast Guard boat crews, and members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Interviews with Coast Guard leadership may be available in Anchorage on August 6. The round trip from Anchorage will be approximately 8 hours, confirmed dates and times are forthcoming.
